About Classic Priya's 2022 Girls on The Run Fundraiser

It is time I stop placing limits on what I am capable of. Running a 10k is something I have secretly wanted to do, but I know myself. The more I keep whispering quietly, "someday..." the more likely it will remain an unaccomplished goal.

I can do this.  I can do anything.  Right?

If you know me, you'll also know that uplifting women is my number one goal. My motto comes from the Amazon warrior oath, "Sister in battle, I am shield and blade to you." Championing women is a part of who I am, which is why fundraising for Girls on the Run of Central Ohio makes sense to me.

GoTR envisions a world where every girl knows and activates her potential and boldly pursues her dreams. They do this through a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. It culminates in a 5k event. They are a 501(c)(3) organization, and your donation is tax deductible.

I've run the race before. It's so fun - every girl gets a buddy to run with her. Her buddy is an adult who looks out for her and encourages her during the race. They are usually a guardian or role model in her life.  But in case she does not have one, there are volunteers on stand by. Turns out, extra buddies were not needed on the day I volunteered. I was off the hook. They told me I could help out wherever I wanted or just watch the event. Anticipating this, I came with a sign to cheer on from the sidelines.

But then, it hit me: I could still do the run and cheer.  After all, I had driven almost two hours and it was pretty cold.  Why not?  I can do anything.

So if you happened to be watching the 2019 GoTR 5k in Cincinnati, Ohio, you may have seen a brown woman in a gold tutu holding a sign high above her head while running (yes running) among a crowd of young girls and their respective buddies.  She also happened to be screaming things like "YOU GOT THIS!"  and "I BELIEVE IN YOU" and at one point simply, "WOOOOOO!" because running and thinking of encouraging things to say at the same time is rather difficult.

The sign read "Who Run The World? GIRLS." on one side and "girls can do anything" on the other.  She would periodically turn it to make sure the runners and fans could see both.  Admittedly, it was unconventional, but

Girls.
      Can.
            Do.
                  Anything.

Which means I can do anything.  Including complete my first 10k while fundraising to help other girls complete their first 5ks.

ANYTHING.  Conventional or otherwise.

So, I hope you'll consider supporting the mission.  Monetary donations, no matter how small go a long way.  But if you are not able to support the cause financially, I understand.  No pressure.  There are unconventional ways where you can help.  Please share my page with others, or send me your words of encouragement, running tips, or workout playlists.  I can do anything, but I know I cannot do it alone.
